Lathe
The LZ 400VS-G precision center lathe is a compact, precise universal center lathe with toolmaking accuracy. We use it to machine forging and rolling samples. We can also use it to produce or rework small tool parts for our forging and rolling tools. We also produce or rework parts for machine stops or ejectors on the lathe.
Wet cutting device
To prepare material samples for testing, we use the SERVOCUT 302 wet cutting device from Metkon Instruments Inc. which can be used to cut metallic materials such as steel or aluminum.
We can use the micrograph to examine the quality of joints, for example. We use the wet cutting device as part of the Collaborative Research Center 1153 "Tailored Forming", among other things, but also for test evaluation as part of industrial orders or contract research.
Laser cutter
For prototype construction, we use the Epilog Zing 16 laser cutter, which can cut and engrave various materials with a 40-watt CO2 laser - including plastics such as acrylic glass, wood and coatings on ceramics or sheet steel.
Among other things, we used the laser cutter to structure ceramic coatings for thermoelectric generators in the DruckTEG research project and to cut out plastic frame parts and produce spare parts for the drone in the Autodrone research project.
