The constantly increasing demands on the efficiency and effectiveness of intralogistics systems, combined with the need for adaptability through the use of autonomous and intelligent systems, are forcing the continuous development of innovative solutions. One way of meeting this development in a value-adding way is the intelligent integration of an automated guided vehicle system with unmanned aerial robots. This article presents the development of a concept for the use of a multimodal transport system.

Automated guided vehicle systems (AGVS) are an essential part of modern intralogistics. So far, the major part of the design cycle (implementation and operation) of an AGVS demands human expertise. Especially, the manually executed management of occurring disturbances leads to high maintenance costs since it often requires the consultation of experts. Therefore, the following paper discusses the development of a Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) expert system for assisting the disturbance management in AGVS. The development is sectioned into three major parts: (1) generation of the case-base, (2) development of the algorithms for case retrieval, case adaptation and retaining new cases and (3) the validation of the expert system. The generation of the case-base and the training data for the expert system is done by simulating the real production layout of a German white good manufacturer using the simulation environment Visual Components. The solutions for the simulated disturbances as well as the adaptation algorithms are based on knowledge extracted from system experts.

The goal of the project was to develop a concept for providing visual guidance during the assembly of standard modules using assistance systems. The correct selection of individual parts for assembly was to be facilitated, for example, by a pick-by-light system in combination with a 3D-based interactive manual. A standardized assembly process is intended to shorten assembly times and reduce assembly errors.

So far, the design of automated guided vehicle systems (AGVS) as well as the disturbance management in AGVS is in need of human experts. In order to design an AGVS or clear an occurring disturbance a system expert has to work through defined process steps manually. This work?ow does not only demand expert knowledge but causes high costs and the proposed solutions are often limited to the experiences of the expert. The following paper introduces the development of a case-based reasoning expert system for an automated proposition of solutions for disturbances in AGVS and discuss related work in the feld of expert systems for the design support of AGVS.
