Project title Development of a method for optimized ERP system change based on individual company requirements (OptiMig – Optimized ERP Migration for SMEs)
Project duration 01.04.2025 – 31.03.2027

To remain competitive, many companies are faced with the challenges of digital transformation. ERP systems play a central role in this. Topics such as AI and big data are currently shaping the functionalities within the ERP landscape. Many SMEs are therefore faced with the decision to change their ERP system – partly due to dissatisfaction with the functionalities or support, partly due to outdated software and hardware. However, a system change is risky and complex. As SMEs rarely carry out such changes, there is a lack of experience and methodological foundations.

The aim of the research project is therefore to provide SMEs with methodological support. This should help them to choose a suitable process model, the right implementation strategy and sequence – considering factors such as system characteristics, digital maturity, readiness for change and organizational resources. The decision-making aid should be simple, understandable and individually applicable.

The holistic consideration of influencing factors (change maturity, organizational conditions, etc.) and the low-effort application of the project results in a pre-competitive software demonstrator underline the benefits, especially for SMEs.
