The “OptiMig” research project aims to address the replacement of an existing (possibly outdated) ERP system with a new (modern) system (“ERP change”). The following questions are to be answered as part of the project:

• Which process model (agile, iterative, sequential) should be used to go through the individual project phases of the ERP change (conception, realization, integration test, etc.)?
• Which implementation strategy (big bang, step-by-step, etc.) should be used for the individual ERP modules?
• In what sequence should the ERP modules (e.g. finance, sales, purchasing, production, CRM, HR, etc.) be approached?

The aim of this research project is to develop a decision-making aid for the company-specific design of the ERP system change.

Your tasks

The following work is planned in the first stages of the research project:

• Derivation of development stages for ERP systems with regard to general (e.g. use of cloud servers) and specific characteristics (e.g. manual production planning vs. AI planning) in order to be able to assess the degree of maturity and the corresponding discrepancies between the old and new ERP system
• Operationalization of maturity models with regard to digitalization (digital maturity of the company or employees) and the ability to change (change maturity) in relation to the introduction and use of new business software (ERP system)

It is possible to work on the content as part of a student assistant position, an internship or a thesis. We will determine the focus together in consultation.

Your profile

You are studying one of the following subjects:

• Industrial engineering
• Business informatics
• Related subjects with a focus on business administration

You are interested in topics related to the digitalization of growing companies, for example the introduction of business software. You are also interested in topics related to project management in software projects.

In addition, you may already have knowledge in the use of ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Odoo etc.) or in the project management of software systems.

You enjoy working independently and on your own responsibility. Good written and spoken German and English skills are required.
