Project title | Enabling SMEs to implement sustainable automation solutions in production and developing an implementation strategy (AutoSus) |
Project duration | 01.03.2024 – 28.02.2026 |
Press release |
Sustainable automation solutions are of key importance in view of current global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity and the shortage of skilled workers. Sustainable automation solutions are essential to ensure that companies can continue to produce at the same or higher levels despite falling employee numbers and higher energy costs.
The aim of the AutoSus research project is to enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing industry to implement sustainable automation solutions for assembly processes. This goal will be achieved by developing an implementation strategy and a method for evaluating ecological, economic and social sustainability.
The methods to be developed should help to increase the competitiveness of companies and contribute to the creation of new business areas or the expansion of existing ones.
Publications about the project
The economy is facing challenges that require sustainable economic activity. Automation offers great potential in this respect, as it can promote energy efficiency, resource conservation and social improvements. Nevertheless, existing sustainability assessment methods often inadequately represent specific requirements for automation solutions. IPH is therefore developing a method to support SMEs in effectively implementing sustainable automation solutions.
