Many older metal forming machines are technically capable but have little digital connectivity. The DiReProFit research project uses a locally operated AI system to demonstrate how existing equipment can be made more efficient through targeted sensor retrofits, structured data collection, and analysis. This enables companies to plan retrofit measures more effectively, taking their own knowledge base into account.

Local AI facilitates digital retrofits in bulk forming. The IPH – Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover gGmbH and the Labor für Massivumforming (LFM) have developed a AI demonstrator that recommends retrofit steps and classifies their benefits in advance.
