| Project title | Development of a key characteristic method for identifying automation potential at manual workstations in SMEs (AutoPot) |
| Project duration | 01.05.2026 – 30.04.2028 |
The “AutoPot” research project is developing a new key characteristic method for identifying automation potential (LMM-AP) for manual workstations in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
The rationale is that demographic change, a shortage of skilled workers, and high physical strain are making the automation of manual tasks increasingly necessary. However, SMEs have so far lacked an easy-to-use method for independently identifying suitable work steps. Existing key characteristic methods evaluate only ergonomic stresses, but not the technical potential for automation.
"AutoPot" aims to close this gap: Based on a catalog of characteristics and standardized forms, companies will in the future be able to assess – without expert knowledge – which manual tasks can be automated cost-effectively. The method is supplemented by an AI-powered chatbot that assists users in filling out the forms. The goal is to reduce the burden on SMEs, minimize absenteeism due to illness, and strengthen the competitiveness of the production site.
