Episode 7 | XXL 3D printing: Steel gearbox parts weighing tons from the 3D printer

Episode 7 focuses on our "XXL3DPrint" project. In this research project, the energy- and resource-saving production of large-scale components is being tested using the example of a ship transmission housing by means of additive manufacturing. In an oversized "3D printer", individual parts with a mass of up to 9 tons are "printed" by laser buildup welding. Our guest Dipl.-Ing. Ake Kriwall explains exactly how this works and what advantages this process brings.
