| Project title | Automated process chain: From 3D scan of large parts to additive manufacturing (Scan2MEX) |
| Project duration | 01.11.2025 – 31.10.2027 |
3D printing offers many advantages, especially in the production of customized components in small series or highly complex component geometries that cannot be manufactured using conventional methods. However, the current state of the art shows that numerous process steps cannot yet be automated, particularly for 5-axis 3D printing. There is therefore still a considerable need for research into process chain automation in additive manufacturing.
The Scan2MEX research project aims to develop a method for the automated design and manufacture of components using large-scale extrusion printing – based on 3D scans or a CAD model of a template. The aim is to shorten the lead time from the model to the start of printing the component.
