The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in companies raises not only technical questions, but increasingly also ethical, organizational, and legal issues. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular face the challenge of sensibly incorporating the AI Regulation and other regulations into their business practices.
For your thesis, we offer you the opportunity to work on a socially highly relevant topic—at the interface between technology, ethics, law, and organization.
Your tasks
- Analysis of the EU AI Act with regard to its requirements for the use of AI in business (e.g., transparency and labeling requirements, prohibited practices)
- Evaluation of ethical guidelines such as the UNESCO Recommendation on AI Ethics or German position papers on “responsible AI”
- Development of a two-part guideline model for SMEs: General section: mandatory requirements of the AI Act; Specific section: self-selected ethical/strategic guidelines
- Investigation of specific corporate contexts: What AI scenarios exist? What uncertainties arise in practice?
- Development of wording aids, model guidelines, and practical examples for internal AI governance in SMEs
- Opportunity to accompany workshops or interviews with company representatives
