Damaged roller bearings pose a significant risk to operators of belt conveyor systems. The friction caused by damage can cause bearings to overheat, leading to unplanned system downtime and, in the worst case, system fires.
In the AkuTra project, the IPH is developing a mobile measuring unit that is capable of detecting and locating worn and damaged support rollers on a belt conveyor. A simulation environment in which acoustic signals can be measured spatially will be used to validate the measuring unit.
