The "AI Act-Ready" research project aims to investigate how manufacturing SMEs can be empowered to navigate the AI Act and other AI regulations and recommendations with confidence and autonomy, implement the requirements in a cost-effective and legally compliant manner, and develop their own internal AI policy. The aim of this thesis is to develop a prototype decision-making assistant that helps companies describe AI use cases in a structured manner and perform an initial classification according to the risk categories outlined in the AI Act. To this end, characteristics such as industry, type of use, AI system type, product relevance, and security relevance will be translated into a transparent decision-making logic and implemented in software.

Your tasks

  • Research on existing approaches to risk classification for AI systems
  • Identification of relevant features for AI use cases in manufacturing SMEs
  • Development of a rule-based decision-making model
  • Prototype implementation, for example, using prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and rule-based modeling
  • Testing of the prototype using selected AI scenarios
  • Evaluation of comprehensibility, traceability, and usability
