Development of a model for the automated determination of the ideal lubricant layer thickness for hot forging

Theme Forming technology
Project title Development of a model for the automated determination of the ideal lubricant layer thickness for hot forging (Minimalmengenschmierung)
Project duration 01.09.2023 – 31.08.2025

In subtractive manufacturing, the use of minimum quantity lubrication is widely known. Despite its cost and environmental protection potential it is not yet used in the field of hot forging. This is especially due to the lack of fundamental knowledge, which has to be obtained within this project. For this purpose, experimental investigations and accompanying simulations will be carried out and combined into one overall model.

This enables a statement about the ideal lubricant thickness, which considers particularly the specific problem of locally different tool loads and the associated effects, such as lubricating film breakage and tool wear.
