Interactive assistance systems such as data glasses or headsets as a new human-machine interface enable an increase in process quality and speed through networking within the factory. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are critical to the implementation of these systems. Therefore, this article describes the development of a maturity model for a systematic ability analysis and increase to the implementation of interactive assistance.

The production and logistics divisions are currently under pressure mainly due to the increasing demand for product variability. Interactive assistance systems make an essential contribution to increasing efficiency in these areas. However, SMEs are critically opposed to the introduction of technology because of the lack of general conditions, since this is not a trivial one. If a company plans the implementation of interactive assistance systems in production and logistics, maturity models are suitable for capability analysis and support in the planning and control of this process. However, it is important to follow a systematic process for the development of the models, in order to ensure a successful implementation of the assistance systems in the company.

This lecture discusses the results of the research project "4.0 Ready", and goes into detail about the potentials and barriers of the implementation of interactive assistance systems, especially in the service and maintenance, as well as the support of the implementation by the use of maturity models.

Data glasses or data gloves as a novel human-machine interface allow intelligent networking within the Smart Factory. Due to lack of implementation strategies small and medium-sized enterprises hesitate to integrate these technologies in production and logistics. In this context, the following article describes a maturity-based approach for a systematic and holistic planning and controlling of the implementation of these interactive assistance systems (IAS).

The realization of the Smart Factory represents the core of the industry 4.0. The aim of the Smart Factory is a complete digitization of information and intelligent networking of machines, storage systems and resources. For the efficient integration of humans in the Smart Factory novel human-machine interfaces are necessary, which can be interactive assistance systems such as data glasses, data gloves or headsets.

The implementation of interactive assistance systems such as data glasses is a further step towards the smart factory to master the complexity in production and logistics by increasing customer requirements. To demonstrate the potential and the benefits of these technologies to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a compendium was developed as part of the research project 4.0 Ready, which provides an overview of existing assistance systems. During the project maturity models are developed to support SMEs in holistically and systematically planning and controling the implementation of interactive assistance systems.
