Additive manufacturing processes – also known as generative processes or 3D-printing – are going to radically change production. In the future, customized products can be manufactured at almost the price of mass products.

Niedersachsen ADDITIV is dedicated to researching and further developing additive manufacturing processes for the broad use in industry, and to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in integrating the new technologies in their production processes.

At present, 3D-printers are limited to only few materials. Niedersachsen ADDITIV develops next generation additive processes. In the future, it shall be possible to process stainless steel and aluminum alloys, polyamides and special materials, such as magnesium, too, and to produce much larger products. Moreover, the economic efficiency of the process chain is crucial for the use in serial production.

In order to make medium-sized companies in Lower Saxony fit for additive manufacturing, Niedersachsen ADDITIV organizes information events, seminars and trainings, and supports companies in introducing the new technologies.

Publications about the project

Additive manufacturing makes it possible not only to attach RFID tags to identify components from the outside, but also to implement them directly in the component. Which processes are suitable – and to what extent can this process be automated?

How can additive process chains be automated and print quality monitored? How is a component made of metal and plastic created in multi-material printing? Scientists from Lower Saxony ADDITIV have been researching this and more in the past three years.

Additive manufacturing - also known as 3D printing - includes manufacturing processes in which a component is usually built up layer by layer. This article describes the opportunities, hurdles and the current state of development of additive manufacturing.
