In the AkuTra project, the IPH is developing a mobile measuring unit that will be able to detect and localise worn and damaged idlers on a belt conveyor. The condition monitoring is to be carried out during operation by the measuring unit ‘travelling’ on the belt conveyor and detecting defective idlers based on the acoustic signature.

An acoustic simulation is to be set up to develop and validate the analysis software. The aim of the work is to obtain an overview of acoustic simulations and to create a model in which the acoustic emissions of a belt conveyor system can be simulated.

Your tasks

The task is to find suitable simulation software and then create an acoustic simulation of a belt conveyor system.

Four work packages are planned for this purpose:

  • In the first work package, the basic principles necessary for understanding are to be developed.
  • In the second work package, various simulation software solutions are to be researched and a suitable one selected.
  • Subsequently, a model is to be developed that simulates the acoustic emissions of a belt conveyor system.
  • Finally, the results will be critically evaluated.
